DURAN® exsiccator lid with knob, DN 250 The DURAN® exsiccator is a vacuum-compatible laboratory vessel with a ground-glass lid, which is used for storing moisture-sensitive substances and for drying moist products. Separated by a sieve plate (made of metal or porcelain), a drying agent is placed in the lower part of the exsiccator base, which binds the moisture of the substance to be dried, placed on the sieve plate. A vacuum can be connected if necessary to accelerate the drying process, as the liquid evaporates more quickly due to the lower pressure in the exsiccator. The vacuum is applied via a stopcock connection. To make it easier to loosen the lid, the flat ground joint of the exsiccator must be well greased, as after evacuation the lid is pressed onto the base. All DURAN® exsiccators are vacuum resistant, i.e. they can be used up to the technically maximum possible vacuum.
