DURAN® baffled Erlenmeyer flask, GL 45, with membrane cap and pouring ring, 250 ml When cultivating microorganisms in Erlenmeyer flasks on a shaking tray, oxygen transfer is often the limiting factor for cell growth. When using DURAN® Erlenmeyer flasks on a shaker, movement creates a liquid crescent. The size of the crescent depends on the tray speed and shaking diameter. The larger the surface area of the contents, the larger the gas exchange area and therefore the possible oxygen transfer. However, the speed and the associated oxygen transfer can only be increased to a limited extent. The new DURAN® baffled flask with four baffles on the bottom interrupts laminar flow and generates turbulent flow. The liquid surface and gas exchange area are increased, thereby increasing oxygen transfer. Laboratory tests showed that the baffles doubled oxygen transfer compared with a standard DURAN® Erlenmeyer flask. Due to fully automated and machine-based production, the DWK Life Sciences baffled Erlenmeyer flasks are geometrically reproducible. The wall thickness of the flasks was increased to achieve excellent mechanical stability and ensure a long product service life. The special manufacturing process makes it possible to produce the product completely with a thread in a two-stage process. The flasks can therefore be closed with the proven DWK Life Sciences membrane cap. Compared with other closure options, such as closing with cotton wool, this enables more reproducible gas exchange. Special features and benefits: The four baffles at the bottom cause turbulent flow, enlarge the gas exchange area and thus increase oxygen transfer At higher shaking speeds, the baffles provide stronger aeration for more growth, particularly of bacteria At low shaking speeds, the baffles provide more movement and gentle aeration for sensitive cell cultures Closing with the proven membrane cap from DWK Life Sciences enables more reproducible gas exchange compared with other closure options, such as closing with cotton wool The consistently automated production makes the shape highly reproducible, resulting in consistent test conditions The special manufacturing process makes it possible to produce the product completely with a thread in a two-stage process Available in three sizes for straightforward process scale-up The increased wall thickness of the flasks provides excellent mechanical stability and ensures a long service life Easy-to-read scale with graduation marks for measuring the contents Permanently durable white printed image, fired in and therefore long-lasting Application: Cultivation and propagation of microorganisms, preparation and cultivation of nutrient media, storage and transport of bacteria, yeasts, plant and animal cells, Suitable for liquid cultures (e.g. pure cultures, enrichment cultures), Use on/in shakers, The GL 45 thread enables the use of the following closures: GL 45 membrane cap for autoclaving processes, 30 mm culture plugs made of e.g. cellulose wool, silicone sponge or cellulose for cultivation, and GL 45 screw caps for storing media or reagents. Delivery is possible with or without membrane cap and pouring ring.
