DURAN® desiccator base, NOVUS type, DN 300 The DURAN® desiccator is a vacuum-suitable laboratory vessel with ground joint lid, used for storing moisture-sensitive substances and for drying moist products. Separated by a perforated plate (made of metal or porcelain), a drying agent is placed in the lower part of the desiccator base; it binds the moisture from the substance to be dried, placed on the perforated plate. A vacuum can optionally be connected to accelerate the drying process, since the liquid evaporates faster at lower pressure in the desiccator. The vacuum is applied via a stopcock connection. For easier removal of the lid, the flat ground joint of the desiccator must be well greased, since after evacuation the lid is pressed onto the base. All DURAN® desiccators are vacuum-resistant, i.e. they can be used up to the technically maximum possible vacuum.
