DURAN® desiccator with knob lid, DN 250 The DURAN® desiccator is a vacuum-suitable laboratory vessel with ground-joint lid, used for storing moisture-sensitive substances and for drying moist products. A drying agent is placed in the lower part of the desiccator base, separated by a sieve plate (made of metal or porcelain), and binds the moisture of the substance to be dried, which is placed on the sieve plate. The drying process can optionally be accelerated by connecting a vacuum, as the liquid evaporates faster due to the lower pressure in the desiccator. The vacuum is applied via a shut-off valve connection. To make it easier to loosen the lid, the flat ground joint of the desiccator must be well greased, as the lid is pressed onto the base after evacuation.
